Our Vision

Here at First Presbyterian Church Preschool, in obedience to God’s Word, our vision and mission is to educate and nurture the preschool-aged children of our church and our community through loving Christian instruction in a quality learning environment.

We seek to provide a preschool experience that will facilitate learning, foster self-esteem and encourage spiritual growth at your child’s own pace.

Train up a child in the way he should go, when he is old he will not depart from it.Proverbs 22:6

Curriculum

Developmental Approach

We offer a Developmental Readiness Program designed to ensure that each child develops his/her cognitive, physical, social, emotional, and spiritual potential based on his/her ability to understand and internalize the concepts needed for growth in these five areas.

Cognitive

Our three curriculums are combinations of the Creative Hands-On Curriculum recommended by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, and Work Jobs, which uses Whole Language, Fastie Alphabet, Letter People, and Biblical teachings to foster learning. Our children learn through repetitive, creative exposure to and performance of tasks/concepts to be learned because the retention of information learned increases with the number of senses used to learn it.

Physical

We encourage acquisition of both gross and fine motor skills through large and small muscle activities during music and exercise in the classroom and on the playground.

Spiritual, Emotional, Social

Daily Bible activities and weekly Chapel classes (held on Wednesdays) encourage children to develop responsible Christian behaviors. In classes, our teachers, by developing supportive relationships with the children, by sharing Bible stories, and by example, encourage their students to:

  • see themselves as secure Children of God, created just the way God designed them
  • respond to God’s love by being concerned for and compassionate with others, especially those in need; and
  • develop a respect for and a desire to protect all God’s creations.

What Parents are Saying…

“Our family has attended First Pres. for the past 5 years. My son started in the 2 yr. old program, and my daughter is in the 3’s. This has been a wonderful experience for our entire family. Not only have our children received a great education, they have received the love and kindness to go along with it. First Pres Preschool has an amazing group of teachers that truly love and care for us and our children. This is our last year and we are going to miss seeing the smiling faces of our extended family every day. We love you all!”

The Quagliaroli Family

“I have been coming to this church since I was in 8th grade. It is thrilling to me to now have my children be a part of the Preschool. It is a wonderful feeling to know that my daughter is not only receiving a solid foundation for Kindergarten, but that our faith is also being taught by loving teachers.”
Anne Romine

“This school is a true blessing! The teachers are incredibly warm and patient and loving. They are wonderful with the children. As a parent, it is very comforting to have my child under their care. The balance of a Christian environment, exploration and fun, and structure is perfect. I feel extremely fortunate to have my child under their wing(s)!”
Lisa Hernandez

“The Preschool at First Pres has been a true blessing in our lives. Not only are the classrooms impeccably clean, bright and cheerful, but all of the teachers are extremely dedicated and engaging. Furthermore, the Preschool program isn’t simply concerned with preparing its students for Kindergarten and beyond, but focuses on the education of the whole child in regard to character, service, and social interaction. Our daughter has grown tremendously as a student at First Pres. She is more confident, more socially aware, and has a deeper understanding of Christ and His love.”

A “First” for us! School is in session and we all look forward to another wonderful year for some of our preschoolers and a “first” year for others as well! Last year was my son’s “first” year and it was a “trip”! When I first embarked on my journey through a myriad of preschool choices for my son, I did all the usual research, listened to a variety of recommendations from friends and family, and ultimately was drawn to First Presbyterian Preschool. Even though I knew I had done my homework, I didn’t know what to expect and little did I know how blessed we really are. First we met someone who I consider a “down-to-earth angel” … Miss Diana – and I thought, “Ok… so far so good.” Then my son saw the “toys” and he was in heaven. When we then met Miss Carole and Miss Kristen welcoming us at the “2’s” orientation, well… that was it for us! We’re IN! I knew I could entrust my most precious gift…my son, to these people. Those of us who are Christians naturally want our children to be raised with all the perks that a Christian foundation affords them…like the tools they need to build a life filled with integrity, humility, tolerance, consideration and everything else that Christianity embraces. This is what they do! Watching my son at Disney World last week – driving the motorcar with my husband, a thought came over me: He learned how to steer way before he could reach the gas pedal! This is a lot like “knowing how to steer his life” before he fast forwards into adulthood. I believe they teach our children the way at First Presbyterian and my family will be grateful for the rest of our lives.
